The winning entry of CHC's 2nd annual trail camera contest was an immediate eye-catcher: two bull moose with their antlers locked, filling up the frame! Jason Houle shared the photo, which he captured in front of his tree stand in Montgomery. This kind of activity will be taking place across moose country in the weeks ahead, as we head towards the peak of the moose rut, but it's rare to catch in person or even on camera.

Our runner-up, Roo Slagle, shared another unusual sighting: a Great Blue Heron taking a stroll through the woods in Belvidere. The bird is moving at a slow, seemingly casual pace but is clearly on the alert for something; hunting rodents, perhaps? And 3rd place (decided by our jury of CHC directors and staff) went to Mike Frisbie, who shared: "This video epitomizes the story of new life in the deer woods. Just a picture-perfect mature Vermont doe with her young!"

Three additional submissions also earned Honorable Mentions: Nick Neverisky's "Bobcat finds the trail camera" (right), Tom Pattee's "Someone not welcome" (below right) and Jeanette Brun's bear footage (below left). Jeanette shared of her entry: "This is my dream coming true, catching a beautiful bear on my wildlife cam. I truly appreciate living with nature all around."
