WildPaths Volunteer Training
Volunteer with the WildPaths Program this winter to support conservation and stewardship of wildlife habitat in the Cold Hollow region - and join a community of wildlife trackers in applying and honing your field skills.
WildPaths Introductory Training
Open to all experience levels.
Join us for a 1-day workshop that will offer training in winter track and trail ID, trail camera monitoring, and data collection tools. Upon completion, you will be eligible to join a team to monitor trail cameras and seek out wildlife sign at one of our WildPaths study sites (a volunteer commitment of one field day every 1-3 months).

Registration Cost: Sliding Scale $20 - $80
Topics will include:
- clear and obscure print identification
- animal movement, gaits and track patterns
- wildlife behavior and field sign
- trail camera use
- wildlife surveys

Tracking Connection Project
Open to experienced trackers (Level 2+ CyberTracker Track & Sign certification or equivalent experience)
Join CHC and Tracking Connection in assessing wildlife movement and connectivity between forest blocks, to support the conservation of functional wildlife corridors. This gathering will introduce you to one of our pilot study sites and the monitoring protocol: we will walk a set survey route and then choose a trail to follow and record (using a smartphone-based GPS app). Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to adopt a snow-season survey route.

Meet the Program Coordinator:
Sophie Mazowita is a certified Track & Sign Specialist and wildlife guide based in Fletcher, Vermont. She started her wildlife tracking journey while working as a park ranger in Algonquin Park, Ontario, then moved Vermont to complete a Master's degree in the UVM Field Naturalist Program. She directs CHC's WildPaths program and offers additional tracker training and consulting services through her business, Tracking Connection. She also teaches wildlife tracking courses at UVM and manages Tracker Certification, the nonprofit organization that promotes the certification and professionalization of wildlife tracking skills in North America.
